Hi. Guess some introductions are in order.
I'm katster. I'm a native Northern Californian, and with the exception of a few weekends and two weeks last summer, I have been in the state of California all my life. So I'm familiar with some of the idiocy that passes for politics around here. I'm a second year masters student in the School of Information Management and Systems at the University of California at Berkeley. I did my undergraduate work in history at the same school, and wrote my final thesis on district elections in San Francisco, and how it lead to the Moscone/Milk assassinations. I've mostly been a lifelong Democrat, and I'm pretty interested in Howard Dean in the Democrat primaries at the moment. I'm interested in technology, politics, and Golden Bear football.
The second person you might see around this blog is Zibblsnrt. He was born in Pennsylvania, but grew up in rural Nova Scotia and now lives in the Halifax area. He's a history major at St. Mary's University in Halifax. He's interested in space exploration and history, and we can convince him at times to give us the lowdown on Canadian politics.
Third is jrenken. He's the system administrator of the server this blog is hosted on. (I should recommend his webhosting service -- www.sandwich.net -- for your webhosting needs. He's done right by me.) He's originally from Minnesota, but is now living in Northern San Diego County. jrenken graduated from the University of California at San Diego with a degree in linguistics, and right now he is trying to get into law school to specialize in computer crime or contracts. He'll prolly mostly post on technology and security.
The fourth person...well, I'll introduce him when he decides he wants to make a post, but I'll thank him now for the spiffy header graphic, which I'll put up real soon now.
The name of the blog comes from an alternate name for Berkeley, based on signage at the city limits declaring the city a "Nuclear Free Zone". It's a wonderful way of describing the city of Berkeley, and thus it was the perfect name for my blog. Because Berkeley isn't just a city, it's a state of mind. :)
