Politics Vs. Reality

Harris has a new poll showing 62% of respondents believe Iraq had strong ties to al-Qaeda and 47% believe Saddam Hussein was behind the September 11 attacks. Where the heck do these people come from? The Harris press release itself boggles at the “surprising” support for claims “not made by the president and which virtually […]

Swift Nuts vs. the AARP, part 2

Rude Pundit takes a quick spin through the “USA Next” site and Lexis-Nexis.
Excerpt:
What’s the connection to the Legal Services Corporation during the 1980s? (The LSC is the governmental agency that provides a modicum of funding for legal assistance for those who can’t afford such luxuries. Most of their work is done through grants to […]

Homosexuals are now non-persons

According to 365gay.com, the Department of Health and Human Services has ordered the federally funded conference on Suicide Prevention Among Gay/Lesbian/Bisexual/Transgender Individuals to remove the words “gay,” “lesbian,” “bisexual” and “transgender” from its material, and also called for the conference to hold a session on “faith-based” suicide prevention. The article isn’t clear whether that last […]

Amusements

The Onion produces another brilliantly acerbic satire, I Support The Occupation Of Iraq, But I Don’t Support Our Troops. Meanwhile, Kos has taken to front-paging cartoons, Tom Tomorrow’s How To Talk Like A Conservative and Troubletown’s about Alberto Gonzales and John Negroponte. A recently formed advocacy group called

Mojtaba Saminejad,
who have been arrested for criticizing their government.
This is a good time to be thankful for the freedoms we have out here
in the Nuke Free Zone.

This is making the rounds now. Background:

Heads above the clouds

Well, as most of you have probably heard by now, Hunter S. Thompson decided to void his warranty last night at the age of 67. I’m only familiar with some of his works and considerably less familiar with his research methods; suffice to say, other people can discuss him better than I can (though I’m […]

Kibbles and B****ing

First, rest in peace, Hunter S. Thompson. I haven’t read much of his work, but what I have read, I’ve enjoyed. Here
are some samples of Thompson’s writing. Perhaps one of my fellow writers who is a bigger fan than I may have more eloquent eulogy.

From the “I Want To Believe” department: According to our vast
Berkelian […]

Land of the Free

Indymedia New York has video of Brick Township, New Jersey high school teacher Stuart Mantel forcing students to stand for the National Anthem.
Ironically, the student who took the video was suspended for 10 days for supposedly having “violated the teacher’s Constitutional rights”. The teacher was not punished.
